1. Prep the Skin

• Cleanse first: Wash the area with warm water and a gentle cleanser to remove oils and bacteria.

• Warm water = key: Shaving after a warm shower is ideal. It softens hair and opens pores.

• Exfoliate (optional but helpful): Removes dead skin and helps prevent ingrown hairs.

⸻

2. Use a Quality Shaving Cream or Gel

• Choose something moisturizing and suited for your skin type (sensitive, dry, etc.).

• Avoid dry shaving—it causes irritation.

⸻

3. Use a Clean, Sharp Razor

• A dull blade pulls and increases the risk of nicks and irritation.

• Rinse the blade often during shaving.

• Replace razors or cartridges every 5–7 shaves (or sooner if it feels dull).

⸻

4. Shave with the Grain First

• Go in the direction of hair growth.

• If a closer shave is needed, go against the grain only after a first pass with the grain.

• Use light, gentle strokes—don’t press hard.

⸻

5. Rinse and Pat Dry

• Use cool water to rinse the area and close pores.

• Pat (don’t rub) your skin with a clean towel.

⸻

6. Moisturize

• Apply a non-alcoholic, soothing aftershave or moisturizer.

• Look for ingredients like aloe, witch hazel, or tea tree oil for calming effects.

⸻

Extra Tips

• For facial shaving, shave in sections and stretch the skin slightly for a smoother glide.

• For leg shaving, shave from ankle upward.

• For underarms, shave in multiple directions—hair grows in various patterns.
